Regional Constance Baker Motley Mock Trial Competition (CBMMTC)

The Regional Constance Baker Motley Mock Trial Competition (CBMMTC) consists of a maximum of 20 teams. Rounds simulate a civil trial proceeding where each team, consisting of four members each, offers opening statements, direct and cross examination of witnesses, and closing arguments. The top three placing teams from the regional convention will be invited to compete at the National Convention Advocacy Competition. Advocates are evaluated on their overall courtroom presence, command of the Federal Rules of Evidence and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, teamwork, and accuracy of objections. Each trial lasts approximately two and one-half hours.

Dear SRBLSA Community,

It is with immense gratitude and excitement that I welcome you all to this year’s mock trial competition. As your Regional Mock Trial Director, and a former competitor, I return to this space deeply inspired and committed to making this experience just as transformative for you as it was for me.

The Constance Baker Motley Mock Trial Competition was not just a competition for me, but it was a journey that reshaped how I saw myself as a future advocate and leader. I know what it’s like to prepare endlessly, to feel your heart racing before a round, to feel the thrill when your hard work pays off. But more than that, I know what it feels like to build something meaningful with teammates who look like you, understand you, and push you to be better.

This competition is about more than winning rounds—it’s about walking away with sharpened skills, meaningful connections, and the confidence to step into any space knowing you belong there. Leading up to the competition, I will host regular office hours and offer short, focused mini-series workshops designed to help you sharpen your skills, get your questions answered, and walk into the competition with confidence. My promise to you is to serve with consistency and care, making sure the mock trial competition is an impactful experience for every competitor.

I look forward to connecting with each of you. I’m here to support, encourage, and help you thrive every step of the way.

Thank you again for trusting me with this role. I am excited to get to work and make this year’s competition one to remember.

With gratitude and in service,

Remie Taylor
